Crucifixion - detail
Apse's lunette
- Left side of the crucifixion -

The Virgin's face is surrounded by the two crucified bodies of the good thief and Jesus, turned towards each other and the thief's scroll enforces the link between the two of them. It reads « Do not forget me when you have entered your kingdom ».

The two condemned men have not undergone exactly the same torture : Christ has been nailed on the cross while the other character has been tied up to it by ropes.

The skull under the cross is Adam's.
The Golden Legend, selection of saints' lives written by the Dominican Jacques de Voragine in the XIIIth, mentions the Golgotha as the burial place of the first man.
