Exterior view of the chapel Saint Sebastian, in Saint-Étienne-de-Tinée
- Western front -
The western front, with a door and window, bears a painting
on its gable.
Altered by the sun and the elements, it shows an example of
the exterior decorations, probably numerous in the region, and of which very few
have been preserved until today because of the rigorous climatic condition.
The main subject of the representation on the gable is the
Virgin of Mercy crowned by the angels.
Above, there is a half-length representation of Christ, coming out of a
tomb, with a city in the background which is supposed to be Jerusalem.
