Baldachin
- Global view : Mary-Magdalen is preaching to the people of Marseilles -
Mary-Magdalen is enumerating and counting her
arguments on her fingers ; this gesture was frequent at that time and used to be
called " comput digitalis ".
The audience is divided into two groups, men are sitting on chests and
women on the grass.
Many details of the civil masculine and feminine
costume are to be noticed.
The treatment of
this scene is particularly typical of the painter's manner : quick and efficient
drawing, expressive gestures and attitudes, treatment of space (in the way
people are gathered into groups) that uses well tested procedures. He uses the
green and blue back-screens in the alpine
tradition.
As the manner of this artist has been recognized in the
decoration of the chapel San Bernardino in Lusernetta, Piedmont, the anonymous
painter of Auron now bears the conventional name of " Master of Lusernetta ".
