Cavaillon Synagogue, the Rabbi’s tribune Apart from the way the prayer rooms were placed one above the other, the synagogues of the region also present other features which were specific to the Jewish rites in the papal state. One of the most spectacular of these features is the Rabbi’s tribune, for readings. The tribune, facing the tabernacle with the scrolls of the Torah, is reached by a double staircase. The highly ornamental decoration of the synagogues borrowed most of its elements from the profane art of the period. |
