Interior of the church seen from the choir
The inside of the church, which was given a new painted decoration in 1851, contains some objects and pieces of furniture of considerable interest, some of these designed at the outset for the collegiate church, others coming from various churches which have disappeared today, either in Poitiers or in its region. Amongst the original pieces there are thirty stained glass windows dating mainly from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, but some of them conserving sixteenth-century elements. There are also some seventeenth and eighteenth-century paintings and a good number of statues from the same period, including some fine terra-cotta pieces. In the choir there is also a superb bronze lectern (in the foreground in this photo), commissioned by the chapter in 1696 from the Parisian founders, Gasse. |
