In 1882, in the Monplaisir suburb, east of Lyons, Antoine Lumière bought a large piece of land on which he was to build the biggest firm dealing in photographic products in Europe (A) . Of the former factory there remains only the shed (D) , the location of the first film, La sortie des usines Lumière (Workers coming out of the Lumière factory) ". The other buildings were demolished in 1975, after the plant was moved to a suburb of Lyons'. The house (B) , built in 1896 for Auguste et Louis was replaced in 1970 by an apartement building and a gas station adjoining Antoine's villa (C).
