There are several versions of this film. Louis Lumiè made a first shot on paper in the late summer of 1894.
The first version on flexible film was made in March 1895 (probably on the 19th); its projection in Paris on March 22 filled the audience with enthusiasm. A later version, the most famous one, was shot during the summer of 1895 and shows female workers with blouses and workmen wearing boaters.
