The right bank of the Bélingou, a tributary of the Dordogne River, is underlain by a rocky bar in the middle part of its course. This formation precedes a cascade over travertine, which is created by an exsurgence of the underground stream network that runs directly under the decorated gallery. |

The "vestibule" zone is approximately 12 meters long, and an average of 3 meters wide. Much of the floor is rutted, undoubtedly due the repeated extraction of soil fertilizing materials. After this section, the far extremity of the zone is marked by an event that makes passage much more difficult. A very low, 8 meter long corridor leads to the foot of a talus cone, which before its removal had to be slid under. After this point, the corridor opens into a large gallery 10 to 15 meters wide and approximately 12 meters high, which is split into two branches. A heavy formation of concretions (stalagmites, draperies, calcite floors…) covers part of the floors and walls. The absence of broken fragments of these formations is evidence that the cave has not been visited during the last centuries. |
