Panel of the Horses
This fresco covers more than 6 meter squares and is part
of a much larger composition that is approximately 7 meters long. The wall
was prepared by scraping its surface, which obliterated some initial drawings.
Several images were then successively created: a shaded aurochs walking
to the left, a shaded rhinoceros, two line-drawings of facing rhinoceroses
(radiocarbon dated to 31,000 BP), and the four horse heads. Below, a small
bison completes the ensemble. |
