It is usually rare to find evidences of defensive fights on sites of settlement, especially weapons which constituted a patrimony of price and bore the symbol of the free man condition. In the beginning of the feudal era, spears, swords and horses remain the sign of the privileged social category of those who make the war : knights. The discoveries of Charavines are thus exceptionally interesting. Weapons, saddlery accessories for a military use, and thin equipment remnants have been brought to light on the whole site. Each family thus practised a military function, in addition to their domestic, agricultural and craftsmen activities. |
