Title : The picking of fruits

Although thousands of trees have disappeared because of the settlers, the latter have not disregarded the natural treasures of the forests. That is how the uncleared part of the territory has constituted an indispensable resource, both for animals and for men.

During the first years of occupation, when the land and the orchards did not produce to full capacity men have eaten many acorns, medlars and wild cherries which stones have been found in great number in the corresponding strata of sediments.

The picking of fruits has always constituted an uninconsiderable additional food. Chestnuts, walnuts and hazel nuts have abundantly eaten, as well as raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, sloes but also marjoram or St John's wort's seeds. The latter could be used either as a medicine or as a condiment.
